Abstract

713,657. Pressure gauges. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Oct. 6, 1952 [July 6, 1951], No. 16130/51. Class 106 (2) A gauge for measuring the difference between two fluid pressures comprises a piston 27 having piston rods 29, 33 extending into the atmosphere in each direction of the piston through the end walls of a cylinder 26 in which the piston 27 moves, one of the piston rods 29 having means 34 by which the differential pressure may be measured and the cross-sectional area of the two piston rods being equal in order to balance the effect of atmospheric pressure. One pressure is applied to the top of the piston 27 through the medium of a volume of oil 36 and the higher pressure is applied to the bottom of the piston 27 through the medium of a second volume of oil 37. A duct 44 branches from a duct 39 and communicates with a groove 45 surrounding the middle portion of an upper bore 28. This ensures lubrication and sealing of the piston rod 29 when a pressure less than atmos-. pheric is applied through the pipe S. A groove 46 in the lower bore 32 serves a similar purpose, this groove being supplied with oil from a third reservoir not shown.
