Abstract

719,964. Embossing. HIEDEMANN, H. May 23, 1952 [June 13, 1951], No. 13113/52. Class 100 (2). [Also in Groups V and XI] In a method of continuously impressing foils, webs or sheets of synthetic thermoplastic material the foil, web or sheet is hung freely substantially vertically over or below the gap formed by a horizontally disposed pair of impressing rollers and is passed through the gap substantially free of tension, and radiant heat is supplied to one or both sides of the foil, web or sheet, while hanging freely, to render it readily impressed on its passage through the gap. Before the web 1 passes between the impressing rollers 3, 4 it passes vertically upwards below the gap between the rollers and in doing so it passes through heaters 6. The heaters 6 are in a box 5 which may be run out sideways on rails 18, a slot 19 in the side of the box allowing it to pass the web. Each heater comprises a reflector 9 and a heating element 10 and is rockable about a pin 11, whereby the distances of the elements and the direction of the heat rays from them may be varied. Simultaneous rocking of the heaters is effected by levers 12, 13, 14 and a coupling rod 15. The rollers 3, 4 are slidable in a frame 20 and their position may be adjusted by members 21, 22.
