Abstract
716,983. Stapling fibres; roller arrangements in spinning &c. machines. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Nov. 20, 1952 [Nov. 22, 1951], No. 27433/51. Classes 120(2) and 120(3) [Also in Group VIII] Apparatus for cutting fibres, e.g. stapling continuous filaments of cellulose acetate, comprises a stator blade which is urged by resilient means into co-operative action with and at an angle to rotor blades the edges of which lie on a surface of revolution containing the edge of the stator blade. In a stapling operation filaments are drawn from a creel through a comb 54 to form a sheet 56 which passes between nip rollers 51, 52, over water trough 53 so as to be wetted, and round feed rollers 41, 42, 43, by which it is fed through a slot 21, being drawn therein by the suction created in a casing 17 by a fan 37: the filaments are cut by blades 8 carried on a rotor coacting with a blade 9 which is urged towards the rotor and its movements damped by means of blocks of rubber or like resilient material 29 and 32 adjustably bearing on the blade 9 and one limb 31 of a blade-carrying angleiron 15 pivoted at 16. Cut fibres are drawn through the fan 37 into a bag 38. The roller 41 carried in fixed bearings is driven by a chain 45 and sprockets 46 from a shaft 47 which is connected by gears (not shown) to the rotor spindle 6; roller 42 is mounted in vertical slots so as to rest on the roller 41; roller 43 is supported only by the tension arm in the sheet 56 and is pulled thereby against ball-races 40 and the roller 42.
