Abstract

The surfaces of a film, e.g. a regenerated cellulose film, are given an increased resistance to friction by application of an aqueous suspension of very finely divided silica or titanium oxide, the oxides having been produced in the required finely divided state by thermal decomposition of volatile compounds of silicon or titanium in the vapour state by means of oxidising or hydrolysing agents. The aqueous suspension may also contain oil sulphonates, fatty alcohol sulphonates, albumen-fatty acid condensates and emulsions of fats and animal, vegetable and mineral oils.ALSO:The surface of textile fibres, yarns, woven fabrics and artificial leather is given an increased resistance to friction by application of an aqueous suspension of very finely divided silica or titanium oxide, the oxides having been produced in the required finely divided state by thermal decomposition of volatile compounds of silicon or titanium in the vapour state by means of oxidizing or hydrolyzing agents. The aqueous suspension may also contain oil sulphonates, fatty alcohol sulphonates, albumen-fatty acid condensates and emulsions of fats and animal, vegetable and mineral oils. The process is applicable to cotton, wool, rayon, polyvinyl chloride and glass fibres.
