Dec. 28, 1950 [April 13, 1950; July 17, 1950], No. 31495/50. Class 21 A metal container with a flanged filling aperture is provided with a corrosion resistant lining having an aperture registering with and smaller than the filling aperture; the annular border of the lining surrounding its aperture being pulled over the periphery of the filling aperture, and clamped thereto by a corrosion resistant ring screwed into the flange of the filling aperture. Fig. 1 shows a metal container 11 having a non-corrosive (e.g. rubber) lining 12 with a bunghole into which is fitted the centering ring 14 of a flange 13 whose rim 15 is welded to the container; the periphery of the bunghole being swaged outwardly to engage a groove in the centering ring of the flange 13 which groove is rolled or pressed over to grip the container wall. The non-corrosive lining is stretched over the interior rim of the flange and clamped by a non-corrosive lining ring 17 (which may be ridged on its face) screwed into position within the flange with a finer thread than that externally securing the closure cap 18, which has a non-corrosive sealing disc 19 separated from the cap interior by an antifriction disc 20. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the periphery of the bunghole is not outwardly swaged but engages a lateral groove in the bunghole flange. The closure cap may be secured by a bayonet joint.
