Abstract

An emulsion furniture polish comprises from 2 to 15 per cent of a hydrocarbon-soluble organopolysiloxane having from 1 to 3 hydrocarbon radicals per silicon atom, the radicals being alkyl, aryl or aralkyl or any combination thereof, from 10 to 45 per cent of a hydrocarbon solvent boiling between 50 DEG and 300 DEG C., from 0.5 to 3 per cent of aluminium-monostearate and/or -distearate and from 37 to 87.5 per cent of water, the percentages being by weight. The polysiloxanes specified contain methyl, ethyl, propyl, octadecyl, phenyl, tolyl, chlorophenyl, xenyl or benzyl radicals. Solvents specified are naphthol mineral spirits, Stoddard solvent, white gasoline and kerosene. Waxes, such as bees, carnauba, paraffin, ceresine, candelilla, esparto and montan, may be incorporated in the polishes, preferably in amount not more than 10 per cent of the composition. Other substances that may be added are perfumes, dyes, anti-slip compounds, and aluminium-borate and -sulphate. Examples are given, in one (example 11) of which a trimethylsilyl substituted silica, prepared according to the process of Specification 682,574, [Group IV (b)], is incorporated in the emulsion.
