Abstract
678,315. Resiliently mounted seats. BATES, H. Dec. 15, 1950. [Jan. 24, 1950] No. 1884/50. Class 52 (i). A seat frame and back are supported in superimposed, spaced relation from a base frame, by coil springs, disposed between the two frames, at the front and rear of the chair. As shown, a seat A and back B are mounted on a seat frame E, supported in register above a base frame C, by cylindrical coil springs F, arranged one at each front corner of the chair and having their ends seated in recesses G, and a row of hour-glass springs H, arranged between the rear members of the two frames, and located by the engagement of an extension J in recesses in the frames. A band of canvas K encloses the gap between the frames, and webbing straps, applied between diagonally opposite corners at the front and rear, restrain relative movement of the frames. A metal strip H, may be secured to the frames, to prevent lateral play. The total resistance to the load, of the springs at the rear of the spring seating, is less than that of the springs at the front. In modifications, the coil springs may be disposed at intervals, or as a complete row, at the rear and at the front, between the two frames.
