Abstract

663,265. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., POWELL, E. F., and DAW, R. F. Jan. 12, 1950 [Jan. 21, 1949], No. 1696/49. Class 144 (ii). In a " safety " air-tube comprising an outer chamber 2 and an emergency chamber 1 joined at the rim-seating periphery, the inner chamber 1 being inflated through an ordinary valve 7, the vent 19 leading to the chamber 2 is controlled by a ball 10 which, in the static position shown, is held away from its seating at the vent by a magnetized steel disc 23 fitted in a nipple 17. In running, the ball is centrifugally forced from the disc to close the vent 19 except for small seepage grooves 22 in the seat 21. In a modification, the ball-valve device is shown fitted at the base of the tube.
