660,771. Refrigerating. SVENSKA TURBINFABRIKS AKTIEBOLAGET LJUNGSTROM. Dec. 12, 1949 [Feb. 3, 1949], No. 31881/49. Class 29 In a refrigerating system comprising a compressor 1 leading by a pipe 2 to a condenser 3 supplying an evaporator 5, high pressure vapour is bled from the pipe 2 through a pipe 9 to drive an expansion engine 10 driving an auxiliary compressor 7 in the pipe between the evaporator and the condenser, the exhaust from the engine being fed to the entry of either the main or auxiliary compressor. A cooler 8 is provided in the pipe between the compressors. By providing a valved byepass round the auxiliary compressor and a valve in the pipe 9, the system may be used without the compressor 7. The expansion engine may be a turbine or piston expansion engine and may be associated with a turbo or piston-compressor. In a preferred embodiment, however, the units 10, 7 are combined to form an ejector, the pipe 9 leads from an oil trap in the pipe 2 and a non-return valve is provided in the pipe 2. It is stated that with the system, the evaporator can operate under a vacuum and yet the compressor can be at above atmospheric pressure to prevent in-' gress of air into the system.
