Abstract
A method of producing hot gases under pressure for the purpose of jet propulsion (see Groups XII and XXVI) comprises introducing a fuel comprising a liquid selected from the following list into a combustion chamber having an outlet orifice for hot gases and also introducing into the combustion chamber an oxidizing agent capable of reacting under atmospheric temperatures and pressures with the fuel to effect a spontaneous combustion thereof. The liquid fuels which may be used are (a) organic compounds containing at least one amide radicle such as aniline, orthotoluidine and methylamine; (b) liquid hydrocarbons containing large percentages of the amines mentioned in (a); (c) highly unsaturated hydrocarbons and compounds containing unsaturated hydrocarbon groups such as divinyl acetylene, dipropargyl and propargyl alcohol; (d) liquid hydrides of lithium, beryllium, boron, aluminium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and sodium; (e) liquid organo-metallic compounds containing one or more of the elements mentioned under (d); (f) liquid fuels containing one or more of the elements mentioned under (d) either in solution or in suspension; (g) the substances pyrrole, pyridine, pinene, terpin, pinol, terpineol and hydrazine; (h) ozonides; and (i) carbon disulphide containing dissolved phosphorus. These fuels may be used together with other fuels such as gasoline. Specification 592,706, [Group XXVI], is referred to.
