Abstract

659,702. Variable-speed gearing. CAMILLIS, L. Oct. 1, 1949, No. 25279. [Class 80(ii)] In chain-shifting mechanism for cycles wherein a carrier plate 5 for jockey and tensioning wheels 6, 7 is mounted on an axle 1a slidable in a sleeve 16 secured in a fixed arm 2 under the control of Bowden mechanism 9, one end of a coiled spring 8 encircling the axle 1a and operating in compression and in torsion is secured to the carrier 5, while the other end is secured to a cap 11 which has a central hexagonal opening 11a engaging over a hexagonal nut 10 fixed on the sleeve 16. To adjust the torsion of the spring, the cap 11 is slid off the nut 10, turned in the required direction and replaced on the nut.
