Abstract
654,532. Securing wall and ceiling boards. ABBOTT, R. G. July 12, 1948, No. 18655. [Class 20(iv)] Wall or ceiling boards are attached to supporting structures by first securing to the surface of each board, each at a small distance from one of the two opposite edges, two reinforcing members having outwardly projecting flanges. the boards being supported by suspension units fixed to the structure and passing between adjacent boards to interlock with separate, readily releasable, locking means disposed on the outer face side of the boards the suspension units supporting the boards through the reinforcing members and engaging the flanges thereof to prevent their lateral displacement. In the form shown, reinforcing members 2, consisting of metal angle sections, are attached to the upper faces of boards 1 near the edges thereof. The boards are attached to the structure to be lined by supporting means positioned at each end of the members 2, the means comprising a suspension unit 3, a supporting unit 4 and two locking members 5 which serve to lock units 3 and 4 together. The unit 3 has a slot 6 through which passes a strap 7 attached to the structure. Before erection the end corners of each board are cut away to accommodate the supporting unit 4 which engages under the members 2. The unit 3 is then placed against the unit 4 with its lateral arms 8 engaging over the upstanding flanges of the members 2. The locking members 5 and 6 are then slid towards each other in the coincident slots 9 and 12 and the arms 17 bent up, as shown in Fig. 1, to lock the assembly together. The entire weight of the boards is thus supported by the reinforcing members 2 which bear on the members 4, and the lining can be readily detached from the supporting structure without damage to the boards.
