Abstract

641,946. Metal building units. MACDONALD, A. S. March 25, 1947, No. 8082. Convention date, April 16, 1946. [Class 87(i)] An elongated hollow metal building unit comprises two channel members 5, 6 secured together at their edges and each provided on its side faces with a tongue 18 and a groove respectively formed by springy ribs 19. The unit is stiffened by vertically spaced trays 14 fixed to the flanges 7-10 by punched and rolled connections 16. The edges 11, 12 of the members 5, 6 may be shaped to interengage with the interposition of insulating material, if desired, and be secured by crimping, or they may be nailed to vertical wooden frame members which support a sheet of aluminium foil or are connected together by wooden bars adjacent the faces of the unit. A package of rock &c. wool may be supported between the pairs of trays 14, or the unit may be filled with rock &c. wool. The faces of the unit may be corrugated and coated inside with insulating material.
