Abstract

649,043. Moulding decorative plastic sheet material. ARMSTRONG CORK CO. Jan. 26, 1948, No. 2270. Convention date, March 29, 1947. [Class 87 (ii)] Decorative sheet material is produced by forming a laminated sheet composed of not less than three laminµ of plastic composition, at least one lamina being of a different colour, cutting said laminated sheet into small laminated sections and pressing these sections heterogeneously to form a continuous sheet by calendering from a bank of said sections in heterogeneous arrangement in the nip of a sheeting calender. The plastic material may be a linoleum composition, an asphalt composition or a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer composition. In an example sheets 2 and 4 (Fig. 1) are formed of a marbleized linoleum composition about 0.04 inches thick and sheet 3 is 0.02 inches thick and of a different colour. The composite sheet is then passed through a rotary die which cuts the sheet into ¢-inch squares, and these squares are fed heterogeneoulsy into a conventional two-roll calender rotating at 5.7 r.p.m. to produce a sheet 7 (Fig. 4) about 0.094 inch thick.
