Abstract
646,018. Endoscopic apparatus. AMERICAN CYSTOSCOPE MAKERS, Inc. Jan. 2, 1947, No. 137. Convention date, Jan. 31, 1946. [Class 81(ii)] Endoscopic apparatus comprises an endoscope tube 10 with two fenestral openings 11, 12 formed therein and adapted to be closed during insertion by an obturator head 41 formed with a web 44 and two lateral closure members 45, 46. The head 41 is carried on a rod 50 fitting within the tube 10, fitted with an operating handle 57 and having a frustro-conical part 55 which engages the free ends of the closure members 45, 46. The rod 50 carries a stop 54 which limits its movement in the outer direction and a stop 53 to limit its inward motion. To insert the obturator in the tube 10, the rod 50 is retracted from the head 41 and the parts telescoped together until the web 44 abuts against a stop in the tube 10. On further telescoping, the part 55 forces the closure member 45, 46 apart to close the fenestral openings 11, 12. The apparatus is retained in this position by a clamp 37.
