Abstract
633,190. Cables. RATSEY, O. L., ROSENBERG, W., and BUCKINGHAM, J. Dec. 31, 1947, No. 35034. [Class 36] A flexible screened cable comprises an insulated conductor 1 sheathed by two flexible metallic coatings or screens 3, 5 between which is a layer of dielectric material 4 having a large loss angle so that any electromagnetic fields propagated between the screens are heavily attenuated and resonances of leakage current are damped out. Suitable dielectric materials for the layer 4 are polythene, polyvinylchloride, neoprene or rubber, loaded with carbon black, ground graphite or finely-powdered iron. The screen 4 is preferably surrounded by insulation 6. The electrical continuity of the screens is continued right up to the wall 11 of the unit to which the conductor is connected as shown in the drawing.
