Abstract
637,950. Valve-gear. AUSTIN MOTOR CO., Ltd., and BISHOP, J. L. H. June 7, 1948, No. 15263. [Class 7 (vi)] A valve operating cam having an effective lifting portion DE is designed with an opening ramp CD, in which tappet clearance is taken up, consisting of a small accelerating portion OG on the lift curve Fig. 5, a part GH consisting of the negative half period of a sine curve plotted on the sloping straight line GH, and a part HX, consisting of the positive quarter period of a sine curve plotted on a sloping straight line HJ, which merges into a constant velocity portion XY. The effect of the design is that at the end of the ramp the velocity of lift is kept very small. The cam is provided with a similar closing ramp EF.
