628,576. Combined turning, drilling, milling, and filing machines. LAURENT, G. Sept. 5, 1946, No. 26766. Convention date, Dec. 9, 1943. [Class 83 (iii)] A convertable machine-tool which may be operated either horizontally for turning, boring, or milling operations or vertically for boring, drilling, milling, or filing operations comprises a pedestal 1 pivotally supporting a slide-bed 3 which is clamped in the horizontal position by screws 5 and in the vertical position by screws 4 together with a stay member 6. The bed 3 is fitted with a saddle 8 provided with an operating gear 9 including a pinion 12 controlled by a lead screw 11, the saddle carrying a group of tool-holders 31, a slidable milling table 13, or a supporting bracket 14. The bed is also provided with a slide 16 carrying a head-stock 17 adjustable by means of a screwed spindle 18. To use the machine for filing, the spindle 18 is replaced by a hand-operated lever (shown in dot-and-dash lines, Fig. 2) for reciprocating the head-stock, or the latter may be reciprocated automatically by means of a connecting rod, Fig. 3, (not shown), having a pin at one end engaging a groove in the slide carrying the headstock, and a crank disc at the other end which can be operatively connected to the head-stock.
