Abstract
628,192. Lamps combined with magnifying lenses. HORSTMANN, F. G. Q. March 10, 1947, No. 6616. [Classes 75(ii) and 75(iii)] [Also in Group XX] A recess in the housing of a lamp is provided with a hinged cover the lower edge of which engages with a magnifying lens or other element pivotally mounted on the housing the arrangement being such that the cover is automatically raised by swing- ing the magnifying lens into or out of the recess. A cover 16 for a recess 11 in a lamp housing 10 is pivoted on an axis 17 lying at the back of the recess and is provided on its lower edge with two spaced rollers 18 which engage with arms 15 pivoted on a spindle 19 at the bottom of the recess. A mount 14 carrying a lens 12 is pivoted on a spindle 21 at the forward ends of the arms 15. On swinging the lens into the recess the rollers 18 ride up and over the ends of the arms 15 and finally the cover falls down gradually to cover the lens within the recess. The construction is such that the line joining the pivot axis 17 to the rollers lies at an acute angle, facing the recess, with the upper surface of the arms 15. The rollers may engage with the surface of the lens instead of with the arm 15 and the upper ends of the mount 14 or arms 15 may be provided with rollers; or rollers or loose collars may be provided on the spindle 21. Clamping screws are provided on the ends of the spindles 19, 21. The cover may be spring urged into the closed position. Specifications 537,151, 559,006 and 589,578 are referred to.
