Abstract

624,303. Retractable castors. SPENCER, HEATH, & GEORGE, Ltd., and CHAMBERLAIN, W. E. July 1, 1947, No. 17304. [Class 52 (i)] [Also in Group XV] brackets-11 screwed to the frame 10 of an article of furniture, near the corners have vertically slidable rods 12 furnished at the foot with castors 13; a pedal 14 is fixed at the end of an axle 15 turning in bearings 16, 17 and pivotally secured to cranks 18, 19 on said axle 15 are thrust rods 20 having their other ends pivoted to bell-crank levers 21 which engage in slots 121 in the rods 12. Rotation of the axle 15 by means of the pedal 14 moves the thrust rods 20 longitudinally to rotate the bell-crank levers 21 thus extending the castors. A locking arrangement comprises a pawl lever 22, having a pedal 221, pivoted on pedal 14 and arranged to engage with a notch 23 cut in the flange 161 of the bearing 16. To disengage the locking mechanism, the pedal 14 is first depressed allowing the depression of the pedal 221 to release the pawl 22.
