Abstract
Textile materials are printed with a paste comprising a stabilized diazo compound, a coupling component, an amine which is capable of dissolving the stabilized diazo compound and the coupling component and an ester of an aliphatic acid, e.g. diethyl tartrate, ethyl lactate, di-isopropyl tartrate and dimethyl succinate. The amine may be a hydroxy amine such as diethylaminoethanol or a cyclic amine such as morpholine. The print is developed by exposure to neutral steam. In examples: (1) cotton is printed with a thickened solution containing di-(acetoacetyl)-o-tolidide, the triazene obtained from 4-chloro-2-toluidine and sarcosine, b -diethylaminoethanol and diethyl tartrate, dried, and aged in steam at 100-2 DEG C.; (2) cotton is printed as in (1) with a thickened solution containing o-phenetidide of 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid, the triazene obtained from 4-chlorotoluidine and sarcosine, b -diethylaminoethanol, b : b 1-dihydroxydiethyl sulphide and diethyl tartrate; (3) viscose rayon is printed with a thickened solution containing o-phenetidide of 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid, the antidiazotate of 2,4-dichloroaniline, b -diethylaminoethanol and diethyl tartrate; (4) the diethyl tartrate of (1) is replaced by di-isopropyl tartrate; (5) the diethyl tartrate of (2) is replaced by ethyl lactate; (6) diethyl tartrate of (3) is replaced by dimethyl succinate; (7) the b : b 1-dihydroxydiethyl sulphide of (2) is replaced by ethylene glycol, and (8) the b -diethylaminoethanol of (2) is replaced by morpholine.
