Abstract
617,630. Thermionic valve circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and WINTLE, M. F. July 6, 1946, No. 20236. [Class 40 (vi)] The values of the anode resistor 3 and cathode resistor 5 of a negative feedback amplifier 1, Fig. 1, are adjusted so that the anode voltage/ grid voltage characteristic has a constant negative slope over the lower part of the working range, and a constant positive slope over the rest of the working-range. The circuit may be used as a frequency doubler by biassing the grid to make the anode voltage a minimum with no signal applied to the grid, or the phase of a signal may be reversed when desired by changing the bias voltage. The signal may be fed to the valve through a transformer, Fig. 3 (not shown), the bias voltage being provided by a potentiometer across the anode supply. Two or more frequency doubler stages may be used in cascade, Fig. 4. A cathode follower 13 feeds the first frequency doubler valve 1A, whose anode is connected to the control grid of the second frequency doubler stage 1B, thus automatically providing the proper bias. The circuit may also be used to provide a series of positive output pulses in response to positive or negative input pulses.
