Abstract
616,388. Hedge-clippers. CARTER, D. H. Sept. 2, 1946, No. 26378. [Class 6 (ii)] Relates to clippers for hedges or grass, comprising a frame or casing with a blade or blades mounted thereon, the blade or blades co-operating with a rotary or oscillatory cutter, and consists in providing means to rotate or oscillate the cutter through a one-way clutch by a handle moved to and fro on the frame or casing. The inverted cup-shaped casing 1 has a hollow handle 3. Mounted freely on the pivot pin 4 is a segmental cutter 5 with teeth 6 on its periphery. A radial slot 8 is formed in the cutter engaging an eccentric pin 9 on a spindle which is rotated through a one-way clutch 12 by movement of the handle 19 to move chain 17, engaging a sprocket wheel B above the flywheel 11. The chain is secured at the other end to a spring 18 in the handle 3 so that as the handle 19 is oscillated the flywheel rotates in the direction of arrow A and the cutter plate is oscillated by pin 9 giving a cutting motion between the teeth 6 and fixed cutter plate with teeth 16.
