Abstract

614,534. Automatic firearms. LIPPERT, H., and HEPPERLE, E. July 19, 1946, No. 21705. Addition to 612,182. [Class 92 (ii)] The invention of the parent Specification is now modified by forming the breech casing 1 and the breech-block locking member 13 with coacting surfaces 16, 15, which are automatically released after discharge of the weapon, and by arranging that the energy accumulator 9 which actuates the locking member also serves to retain that member in the locked position. In the construction shown a housing 9a for the accumulator spring 11 is connected by a pin 10 to an arm 19 pivoted to the breech casing. The housing serves as a support for an arm 17 of the member 13. On discharge, the casing and breech-block 5 recoil together until the arm 19 is rocked by striking a surface 20 on the gun cradle 3, thus moving housing 9a clear of the arm 17 and enabling the surfaces 15, 16 to disengage. The breech-block can then recoil alone against the action of a spring 6, and when it returns its arm 17 strikes the housing 9a to compress the spring 11, the impact of the housing on an abutment 12 of the casing 1 serving to help the spring to re-assert itself when moving the housing back to the position shown. In a modification, Figs. 7-11 (not shown), the accumulator housing is connected by a pin to a lever pivoted on the cradle 3, this lever being rocked by an abutment on the breech casing during the recoil movement.
