Abstract

606,062. Centrifugal separators. THIEMANN, W. H. A. (Fawcett, H. W.). Jan. 9. 1946, No. 833. [Class 23] In a separator having a rotating disc pack, as used in cream separators, the inlet edges of the discs are formed to restrict the flow of liquid passing through the passages between adjacent pairs of discs. Fig. 2 shows the inner peripheries 22 of discs 21 turned downwards to form passages 24 which are narrower than passages 1. It is stated that when being cleaned, the flow of cleansing water between the discs is more evenly distributed amongst the discs when the inlets 24 are narrower than the passages 1. In a second arrangement, the inlet edges of the discs are parallel to each other with the ends formed mushroom-shaped in cross-section. Fig. 4 shows inlet edges with thickened edges 29 which may touch each other or be spaced as at 31. The inlet edges of the discs may be serrated. Specification 466,971 is referred to.
