Abstract

586,428. Filters. ALSOP, S. May 31, 1945, No. 13697. [Class 46] A filter contains a removable filter pack composed of a series of filter units, each formed of two centrally-perforated thick pulp pads spaced from each other, flexible means such as a tie cord being provided for binding the units together. In the construction shown, a filter pack is made up from units, each consisting of two filter pads 7 connected at the edges by stitching 8 and enclosing spacing discs 9, the units together with separating washers 12 being connected together by a cord 16. The cord passes to and fro through notches in stiff washers 14 at the ends of the pack and through central apertures in the pads 7 and washers 12, the ends of the cord being tied together and covered by additional washers 19. The pads' 7 are preferably formed of layers of fibrous material, such as sulphate pulp and asbestos fibres of graduated density with the densest layers at the inner opposed surfaces of the pads. The spacer discs 9 may consist of stiff paper coated or impregnated with varnish or like material, which may also be applied to the inner surface or to both surfaces of each pad. The discs 9 may be dispensed with if spacing bosses are impressed on the inner surfaces of the pads before the varnish is hardened. Specification 586,427 is referred to.
