Abstract
574,805. Electric air heaters. ROBINSON, C. J. March 24, 1943, No. 4795. Convention date. March 19, 1942. [Class 39 (iii)] An electric induction coil adapted for use in an air heater comprises an iron tubular member 9 having a number of circumferential grooves tu receive the coils 10, each of the separating ribs 12 having a gap at one point of its circumference. A single layer of wire is first wound on the member 9 from end to end, passing from each groove to the next through the gaps, and a second layer then wound in series over the first, and so on till the grooves are filled. The coil is enclosed by an iron sleeve 25 spaced by arms 26, 27 from an outer casing 2. The member 9 is heated by induction, thereby heating air which passes upwards through it. The heater, enclosed in a casing, may be placed within a vessel containing liquid which is required to be heated in a refrigerating system. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a modification, Fig. 9 (cancelled and not shown) in which the member 9 is a plain cylinder having separate insulating circumferential spacing ribs on its outer surface to provide the grooves for the coils. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
