552,336. Treating water; cleaning nozzles. PERMUTIT CO., Ltd., and MILTON, J. G. Nov. 10, 1941, No. 14486. [Class 46] [Also in Group XXIX] In apparatus for treating of water, such as for the removal of calcium hardness as described in Specification 507,750 and 522,430, in which water flows upwards through a suspension of sand ar other granular material from an inlet pipe 2 terminating in a nozzle 3, a branch pipe 10, or a separate pipe, is provided to lead water under pressure into the nozzle to free it from sand &c. at starting. The branch pipe 10 may lead from the pipe 2 at a point between a non-return valve 11 and the supply pump and enter the nozzle at an angle of about 30 degrees to the axis.
