554,979. Tapping and studding attachments. BROOKS, T. J. Dec. 26, 1941, No. 16689. [Class 83 (iii)] Tapping &c. attachments are pro vided with an adjustably spring loaded yielding drive. The socke a formed to fit a lathe or other machine is hollow to contain the spring b that presses on the closed end of a thimble d filted witt a transverse pin g working in slots i in the socket. The under surface of the thimble is formed with notches p into which a cross pin A in a shank n is pressed by a washer r and screwed sleeve q adjustable in the socket and locked by a nut s The shank is provided with a tap holding chuck v. When used for studding the shank n is replaced by a similar shank formed at its outer end as a stud box. The socket may be provided with cross holes for a trimming bar for hand actuation, an extension connected by a universal joint being used after the tap has been started.
