Abstract

540,573. Dynamo-electric machines. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. April 17, 1940, No. 6911. Convention date, April 18, 1939. [Class 35 ] The stator of a dynamo-electric machine is secured in a frame which is supported in an outer frame by means of resilient devices adapted to absorb radial oscillations but to be rigid against tangential oscillations. In the form shown the inner frame carrying rigidly the stator 6, consists of rings 9 and longitudinal members 8, 17, the members 17 being secured by bolts 18 to caps mounted on pairs of blade springs 11 on supports 12 secured to the outer frame of the machine by bolts 14 and stays 15. Bodily horizontal movement of the stator is checked by springs 20 secured to a longitudinal rib 23 in the movable inner frame and bars 21 forming a part of the outer fixed frame 1. The question of deformation of the stator by the rotating magnetic field is discussed, and it is shown that tangential oscillations due to this source practically vanish at a distance of one-third of the radius of the neutral axis of the stator considered as a beam from this axis. The springs therefore are attached at this radial distance. The armature is journalled in bearings which are independent of and separate from the inner frame.
