Abstract

548,983. Separating solid materials; soap powder. LEVER BROS. & UNILEVER, Ltd. Aug. 12, 1941, No. 10233. Convention date, Aug. 15, 1940. [Class 117] [Also in Group III] The dust and fine particles are removed from comminuted soap by passing the soap down a tower 10 provided with staggered ramps 16 between which the soap particles fall freely in a thin curtain. A counter current of gas is drawn in through an aperture 18 at the bottom of the tower and is evacuated through an aperture and hood 11, 19 at the top carrying with it the dust and fine particles. The gas flow is controlled by a valve 21 at the top of the and by a damper 23<SP>1</SP> in the exhaust pipe 20 leading to the suction fan 17. In a modification, branches from the exhaust pipe 20 may be provided leading to intermediate parts of the tower, and each provided with a regulating damper; and valves for making up the volume of air so withdrawn may also be provided at different points.
