Abstract

537,345. Snap-action switches. WHITEHEAD, G. E., and WHITEHEAD SWITCHGEAR & INVENTIONS, Ltd. Jan. 6, 1940, No. 359. [Class 38 (v)] When a board 17 carrying the movable contacts 5, 6 of a switch as well as a fuse 1 or like device, is moved into the " off" position, it closes an opening 10 in the casing and so prevents access to live parts within. The opening 10 is normally closed by a cover 11 hinged at 27 and carrying the operating lever 12 which is pivoted at 25 and, controls toggle links 13, 14. The carrier 17 moves rectilinearly on guides not shown, under the influence of a spring 24 which is compressed during the closing movement. The lever 12 and cover 11 engage each other so that the switch cannot be closed when the cover is open and opening the cover also opens the switch. Specification 409,085 is referred to.
