Abstract
523,896. Making bearings. VANDEBVELL, G. A. Nov. 15, 1938, No. 33194. [Classes 83 (i) and 83 (ii)] Casting composite articles.-A three ply strip for making bearings comprises steel backing, an intermediate layer of brass or other non- ferrous alloy, and a face of bearing metal. The layers may be applied by electro-plating, spraying or vapour deposition but preferably the intermediate and facing layers are applied successively in molten condition. Fluxing or tinning may be employed but if the facing layer is applied before the intermediate layer can oxidize it is not required here. The facing layer may comprise a tin, lead, or cadmium base alloy and should not be more than 0.0085 of an inch in thickness. Specification 440,258 is referred to.
