Abstract
526,941. Ammunition projectiles. PLAISTOWE, E. R. H. Nov. 17, 1938, No. 33486. [Class 9 (i)] A projectile or similar body adapted for projection from a tube has a driving or lubricating band formed of porous metal impregnated with lubricant and closely associated with malleable or ductile material such as copper. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the copper or like band a has an inset ring c formed of porous metal impregnated with lubricant. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which the rings c have dovetailed engagement with copper or like rings a. The porous metal or alloy may be obtained by mechanical agglomeration under pressure (with or without heat treatment) of particles of ferrous metal or alloy or a bronze. Lubricating oils, waxes, or alloys of low melting point may be used as the lubricant. Specifications 465,392 and 528,570 are referred to.
