Abstract

513,165. Preventing inductive disturbances. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and LONG, A. L. March 8, 1938, No. 7250. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVI] The conductors of an open wire system are connected to the cores of an insulated cable or to repeater equipment through fuses arranged in banks on a terminal member, the fuses in each bank being arranged in staggered formation and adjacent fuses in the same bank being connected in the same circuit. Fig. 3 shows a side elevation of a cable terminal embodying the invention. One bank of fuses is denoted by the references 1a<SP>1</SP> to 8a<SP>1</SP> and the other bank by references 1b<SP>1</SP> to 8b<SP>1</SP>. 1 is a frame member of insulating material. Adjacent fuses such as 1a<SP>1</SP> and 2a<SP>1</SP> or 1b<SP>1</SP> and 2b<SP>1</SP> are connected in the same circuit. Each fuse in one bank is held between a pair of clips, only one 8 of which is shown. The corresponding clip for each fuse in the other bank is shown at 9. Each clip 8 carries a carbon block 21 and each clip 9 a block 22. Between those blocks are arranged further blocks 19 and 20 mounted on an earthed plate 18, apertured mica plates 23 and 24 being inserted between the pairs of blocks 19 and 21 and 20 and 22 respectively. Each mica plate and the associated pair of carbon blocks constitutes a lightning-arrestor. As shown, pairs of fuses may be arranged in screened containers 25.
