[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, April 12, 1939] [Classes 44 and 65 (ii)] [Also in Group X] A door 3 for rooms and shelters is provided with means for obtaining a gas-tight closure, hinges 19, Fig. 4, having co-acting inclined surfaces 23 for lifting the door when it is being opened, and levermechanism 14 actuated by the shaft 12 of the door-locking mechanism for lifting the door when the locking-means is released. The lever 14 shown is pivoted at 17 to the door leaf and carries at one end a roller 16 which is depressed into contact with a bracket 15 on the door frame when the other end is lifted by a cam on the shaft of the locking-levers 5. The door is thus lifted thereby bringing the surfaces 23 of the hinge into such position that they can ride one over the other. These surfaces are formed on lugs 21, 22, Fig. 4, one of which is carried by a bracket 20 fitted to the door frame and the other by a fitting on the door frame. The fitting carries the hinge pin 24 which passes through an elongated hole 25 in the bracket 20. When the door is lifted, an inclined surface 28 on the fitting engages with an inclined surface on a door-frame bracket 26, and urges the hinged edge of the door away from the frame. As shown in Fig. 6, the lower edge of the door is adapted, when lowered, to dip into a gutter 36 which is filled with liquid. The opening in the gutter is normally closed by a spring-controlled plate 39. The other edges of the door are either beaded, or bent to provide a rectangular or triangular edge, as shown in Fig. 10. to engage a gasket 47 fitted to the door frame. Alternatively, the gasket is carried oy the door.
