Abstract
501,675. Centrifugal mixing-apparatus. LOWE FOOD PRODUCTS CO., Ltd., J., and HAWES, F. F., [Representative of HAWES, D.M.A.G.]. Oct. 30, 1937, No. 29683. [Class 23] [Also in Group III] In emulsifying-apparatus having propelling means surrounded by a mesh or screen in which the propelling means lifts the material to be emulsified from a body of the material and forces it tangentially and upwardly through the screen from whence it returns to the material undergoing treatment, the propelling means is formed as a feed worm, preferably having multi-start flights. The device illustrated is suspended from flexible supports and immersed in the material to be emulsified. This material is drawn through the orifice 13 by a rapidly rotating worm having two flights 29 and forced upwardly and outwardly through the surrounding screen 25 into an annular passage 26, in which it rises and finally flows through annular passages formed in the head between deflecting plates 23, and 7 and down over the sides of the outer casing 6. This casing may be removed for. cleaning purposes by releasing spring catches 21. The mesh screen may conform with the external shape of the worm, as shown, or it may be cylindrical. The worm may have a single start, and may be cylindrical or helical in form, and the flight or flights may also be perforated. The flights are preferably formed of one or more strips of material held by spacers 28 from the centre shaft 3, or they may consist of a strip or strips arranged on the exterior of a suitably shaped e.g. conical member. The flights may also be interrupted at intervals to form separate blades.
