Abstract
506,928. Hydrogenated napthylamines. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 6, 1937, No. 33747. Convention date, Dec. 5, 1936. [Class 1 (i)] [Also in Group IV] Decahydro-#-naphthylamine is obtained by hydrogenating #-naphthylamine or tetrahydro- #-naphthylamine at 250-300‹ C. and at a pressure eventually not less than 2000 lb. per square inch in the presence of a catalyst containing nickel and in the presence or absence of an inert solvent. In the examples, (1) #-naphthylamine and a nickel chromite catalyst or (example 2) a nickel catalyst are heated to 175-225‹ C. under a hydrogen pressure of 1000-2000 lb. per square inch, and the temperature is then raised to 270‹ C. and the hydrogen pressure to 2000-3000 lb. per square inch; (3) ac-tetrahydro-#-naphthylamine and a nickel chromite catalyst are heated to 200‹ C. under a hydrogen pressure of 1500 lb: per square inch and the temperature is then raised to 300‹ C. and the pressure to 3000 lb. per square inch. Specifications 276,571, 290,175, [both in Class 1 (i)], 395,232 ; and 418,374, [Group IV], are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the hydrogenation of N-alkyl-, N-aryl- and other N-substituted #-naphthylamines, and states that other hydrogenating catalysts may be used, platinum and other noble-metal catalysts and cobalt, copper and their chromites being specified. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
