Abstract

505,218. Window fastenings. ATKINSON, D. S. Nov. 23, 1938, No. 31197 /37. [Class 44] A fastening particularly for hinged windows comprises a lever 2 pivoted at a<1> to a plate 8 secured to the stationary frame d, one arm 2c serving as a handle, the other provided with an arcuate eccentrically disposed slot adapted to engage a pin b<1> carried by lugs b<2> on a plate 5 fixed to the window frame c. During the fastening movement the edge 2a of the slot exerts a cam action tightening the window on its seat, and during reverse movement, the edge 2b forces the window from its seat. To relieve the hinges from endlong strain when lever 2 is being operated, plate 8 has projections 8a, 8b slidably received between guide projections 6a, 6b on plate 5, which may also have a handle projection 9 for use in closing the window. The application of a number of simultaneously operated fastenings to the edge of a long window is described, the requisite fastenings being suitably spaced along the edge with their arms 2c pivotally connected to a common connecting rod operated by a pivoted handle.
