Abstract
The raw material composition for making a Portland cement is so adjusted that the cement has an alumina modulus, viz.: the ratio Al2O3/Fe2O3 of between 0,90 and 0,45, and a silicate modulus, viz.: the ratio SiO2/Fe2O3 + Al2O3, of between 1,10 and 1,75 and a lime standard, as defined in the Specification, of above 90. Preferably, the alumina modulus is about 0,64, i.e. equimolar proportions of Al2O3 and Fe2O3 and the silicate modulus is about 1,40. In carrying out the invention, ferric oxide may be added to the usual raw materials for making Portland cement. Such a cement may be admixed with high, e.g. of the order of 5 per cent, proportions of gypsum or calcium chloride. It may also be admixed with puzzolana as by grinding puzzolana with the clinker. Specifications 231,535, [Class 22], 400,813, and 425,856 are referred to.
