Abstract

488,444. Printing-machines. COATES, L., and COATES BROS. & CO., Ltd. March 15, 1937, No. 7539. [Class 100 (ii)] Damping-apparatus for lithographic machines comprising damping-rollers 2 provided with moisture from a common supply roller 4, is provided with rollers 2a or other devices, separate from the roller 4, for removing ink or oil from the rollers 2, and the roller 4 is treated so as to be ink-repellent. The rollers 2a may be of copper, brass, or zinc, and the roller 4, and also, if desired, the fountain roller 5, may be of steel coated with lead or chromium or alloys thereof and made ink-repellent by treatment with sodium hydroxide followed by treatment with sulphuric acid.
