Abstract
471,078. Printing-surfaces. LEWIS, B. J. June 22, 1936, No. 17334. [Class 100 (ii)] A printing-plate comprises a base plate 11 of metal, wood, fibre board, &c., and a coating 12 of plastic sheet material such as pyroxylin, which is softened by the application of a solvent such as acetone on the exposed surface, and then manually deformed to produce a printing-surface. The baseplate 11 is preferably of metal with a roughened or pitted upper surface 14 which when inked assists the sheet 12 to produce an illustration on the medium to be printed. The sheet 12 is preferably smooth on one side and pitted on the other, and either side may be attached to the baseplate by the use of a solvent such as acetone. The outline of the subject to be printed may be applied to the sheet 12 by hand, transfer, or photography. The sheet after being softened is then treated with a knife, brush, &c. A lacquer medium may be applied to both the sheet 12 and exposed parts of the baseplate 11. Specifications 13238/08, [Class 100], and 372,014 are referred to.
