Abstract

478,515. Making paper &c. bags &c. PIRIE, APPLETON, & CO., Ltd., and WOLFF, H. July 20, 1936, No. 20032. (Class 94 (ii)] Apparatus for preparing a web of paper &c. b for the manufacture of bags, envelopes, of the dry-sealing type, comprises driving means e for the web, two devices c, d for applying the adhesive in stripes upon opposite faces of the web and a series of guide rollers g, about which the web is passed in a succession of convolutions until the adhesive is dried, an air current being employed, if desired, the web being then forwarded to a bag &c. making machine j by rollers h, a loose bight i being preferably arranged in the web. The adhesive stripe carried on the inner face of the web is arranged to overhang the ends of the guide rollers or, alternatively, to register with gaps or grooves formed therein. According to the Provisional Specification, the web may be creased to define certain auxiliary flaps, registered for a printing operation on one or both sides and then fed intermittently so that cutters may operate to remove rectangular portions from each edge. Individual blanks are now severed, gummed on the side flaps, and then fed to and pushed by a reciprocating plunger, through a folding-box. The envelopes with sealing flaps overlying the auxiliary flaps and the back walls are then collected in a magazine. Two or more rows of envelopes may be produced from a single web. Specification 458,886, [Group XV], is referred to.
