Abstract
476,678. Agglutinated fibrous materials. WERNERSSON, F. S. I. May 8, 1936, No. 13057. [Class 140] [Also in Groups V, IX, and XIV] A resilient pad or mat for carpeting and upholstery comprises a shaped body of rubberized, animal or vegetable, non- felted fibres in a compressed but open-meshed condition and formed with deep grooves or incisions d, e, partially dividing the body into juxtaposed segments f integral with a common base r. The volume of fibres in their normal expanded condition is reduced by the compression to from 15 to 40 per cent. Textile strips or fabric may be inserted in the grooves in a relatively compact condition. The depth of the grooves is greater than their width and they may be arranged in lines at right-angles. The grooves may be formed during moulding by a pattern placed in the mould or they may be cut in the moulded body. The segments f may be of square, circular or other cross-section. The base r may be formed of more elastic or longer fibres than those in the segments f. The body may be provided with segments f and grooves d, e on opposed faces with a common, intermediate base. The body may be inserted in a recess in a second solid fibrous body.
