Abstract

475,732. Bearings. FERSING, L. April 20, 1936, No. 11198. Convention date, April 19, 1935. [Class 12 (i)] A bearing comprises concentric mem. bers 31, 33, and an interposed ring member 32 which is locked to the member 33 such as by shrinking so as to deform its circumference into undulating form and produce wedge shaped spaces 43 for oil between the bearing surfaces of the ring 32 and member 31. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the bearing surfaces are spherical and the ring 32 has lubricant ducts 39 leading to axial grooves 41 in the bearing surfaces. The ring member 32 may be in segments or may be securec to the outer bearing member 31. The invention can be applied to cylindrical and conical bearings and to axial thrust bearings. As applied to a conical bearing, a conical ring 32c, Figs. 17, 18, having ridges 64<1> is mounted on a conical hub 33c and is fixed thereto by a nut 61. The ring 32c rotates in a ring 31c secured in a housing 69 and locked in adjusted position by a screw 68. The amount of distortion of the ring 32c can be varied by screwing up the nut 61. Oil is supplied to the bearing surfaces under centrifugal force through passages 59, 60, in the hub 33c. Specifications 344,228 and 464,028 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 344,228 and 464,028.
