Abstract
463,989. Motor-vehicle driving-gear. PORSCHE, F. Nov. 4, 1935, No. 30482. Convention date, Nov. 2, 1934. [Class 79 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] Universal joints, for use in a differential gear, driving swinging half-axle shafts 1, 1<1> of a motor vehicle, each comprise a flattened shaft-end 3, slidably bearing in a one-piece or split cylindrical block 4a, 4b, which is journalled in a through boring in the corresponding differential bevel-wheel 6. The bevel-wheels 6 are journalled in a planetcarrier 11, the two parts of which are secured together by bolts which also attach the crownwheel 16. The half-axle shafts are retained in the carrier by spherical engagement between the latter and the periphery of the flattened-end 3, and a flange 2, formed on the shafts. The inner end of the part 3 may also be part-spherical or have inclines 3a, as shown. The planet-carrier 11 has inclined oil-paddles 17 feeding oil to the bevel-wheels and joints through ducts 18. The axle-casings 22 have spherical engagement 21 with the fixed gearcasing 15. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, refers to Specification 385,778, [Group XXIV], and states also that the flattened shaft-ends 3 may be wedge-shaped and have dove-tailed engagement in the block 4a, 4b. In this case the retaining flange 2 is omitted. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
