Abstract

466,214. Motor forecarriages; frames. GARNER, J. P. Nov. 27, 1935, No. 32835. [Classes 79 (iii) and 79 (iv)] A light delivery-van orgoods-carrying vehicle comprises a body portion 5 with a low floor including the driver's seat at normal height and wind screen 17, and a removable driving unit including the front axle, dashboard and steering and control gears which pass under the mudguards and the edge of the windscreen respectively when being assembled. The front axle carries a detachable frame portion 1 on which is mounted an internal-combustion engine 14 or a motor driven by batteries, together with the dashboard carrying the instrument board 18, steering wheel 22 &c., the brake lever being however on the rear portion. The drive may be to the front wheels as shown or through a low propeller shaft to the back axle. The frame members are of channel formation, the front members 1 facing inwardly and the rear members 4 facing outwardly, one or both sections being cranked as shown and connection back to back being effected by bolts 28, Fig. 7, passed through holes provided with bushes 9. In addition supporting plates 12 are attached to the lower flange of one member on which the other member rests with positioning pins 13 engaging holes in the plates. The frame members 1 are connected by a rear cross member 10 and the members 4 by a similar cross member. The detachable front portion includes a recess 19 for the driver's feet with inclined floor boards 20 at a higher level than the rear portion 4, the arrangement enabling the driver to turn on the seat and step on the lower portion 23 when alighting. The front unit is provided with a scuttle member 16 which is detachably secured to the lower edge of the windscreen 17 on the body portion.
