Abstract
448,250. Aiming guns. STIEGER, H. J., c /o General Aircraft, Ltd., London Air Park, Feltham, Middlesex. Dec. 4, 1934, No. 34879. [Classes 92 (i) and 92 (ii)] Means for sighting and aiming machine guns from cover comprise a mounting for the gun 1 which permits of moving the gun about an elevational axis 2 and a training axis 25, a gun-aiming lever 8 movable about like axes 20, 25, and sighting means including a reflector 13 rotatable through the same angle as the gun about one axis and through half the gun angle relative to the other axis. In the form shown, the aiming lever is pivoted at 20 to a cranked sighting tube 21 rigid with the trainable gun support 4B and is connected with the gun by a parallel-motion link 17. The reflector is connected by a two-to-one gear with the trunnion 2. The sight eye-piece 22 lies approximately in the axis 25. The hand grip carries a firing trigger 24. The arrangement is suitable for use with tripod gun mountings or with mountings for armoured cars. Specification 438,717 is referred to. The Provisional Specification also describes (1) a panoramic periscope sight movable relatively to the gun, (2) a separate direct sight for use in checking the aim during instruction, and (3) means for correcting the sight line for range.
