445,494. Brakes. PIGANEAU, G. P., 152, Boulevard Malesherbes, Paris. Nov. 26, 1934, No. 33936. Convention date, Nov. 27, 1933. [Class 103 (i)] A brake is operated by a centrifugal device 2 which engages the brake at one end and at the other end a member operated by the driver so that the driver can transmit manual effort to the brake through the centrifugal device. To apply the brake the driving roller 3 of the centrifugal device in casing 2 is brought into engagement with driving means such as a brake drum 4 and the centrifugal weights 7 move radially outward and by inclined surfaces act on rods 11, 13. Rod 11 moves out to operate brake lever 12 and rod 13 is held stationary by a spring-pressed plate 14. When a certain braking pressure has been attained, the springs 15 yield and release the brake. The compression of the springs may be increased by hydraulic transmission acting on a piston 16 against which the springs 15 abut so that the brake is released at a higher braking pressure. The casing 2 is turned in an eccentric mounting to engage the roller 3 and is moved by the brake pedal which on further movement engages a plunger which acts on the hydraulic transmission compressing the springs 15. The plunger may be moved by a hand-operated screw. Specification 400,418 is referred to.
