Abstract

430,759. Aircraft structures. PETTERS, Ltd., and BRUCE, R. A., Westland Works, Yeovil, Somerset, and A.T.S. CO., Ltd., 3, Clements Inn, Strand, London. Dec. 22, 1933, No. 36099. [Class 4] A metal beam comprises a pair of polygonally sided boom members a, b between the open edges of which is secured a corrugated sheet-metal web c of which the lines of the corrugations are inclined at approximately 90‹ to the boom members. At the end of the beam the corrugated web c is secured between L-shaped channel pieces e, e, f, f extending from the polygonal members and joined at intervals by spacing members h. In a modified construction, Figs. 8, 9, the polygonal boom members a<2>, b2 are reinforced by tubular liners m and at the end or ends of the beam the booms may be joined by side plates p. The gaps between the spaced edges of the booms may be bridged by channel cap-members q, r. The shape of the boom members may vary along the length of a spar whilst the gap between the open edges remains of constant width.
